United
States Representatives from Indiana Join Efforts on Energy
Bill
Representatives'
Peter Visclosky, Mark Souder, Julia Carson and John Hostettler
joined over 150 colleagues in signing a letter to Chairman
Thomas, asking that tradable tax credits for clean and renewable
generation be made a part of the energy bill.
Tax
incentives for all utility sectors help to address an increasingly
critical need for a diverse domestic portfolio of clean generation
sources. And, the locally elected officials who run our utilities
are seeking to produce more energy from clean and renewable
sources in order to meet the demands of our customers, who
are increasingly interested in promoting these resources.
Still, given the high cost of newer technologies, non-hydro
renewable generation amounts to less than one percent of the
public power's aggregate generation capacity. There is much
more that can be developed from renewable resources and through
cleaner technologies.
