Do

your insulating sleeves and blankets need to be tested?
OSHA 1910.137 states "Before first issue and every
12 months thereafter." Do you ever need to test your
rubber insulating line hose and rubber insulating covers?
Yes, OSHA 1910.137 states "Upon indication that the
insulating value is suspect." Do you need to test your
hot sticks? Yes, OSHA states that your live line tools used
for primary employee protection shall be removed from service
every 2 years for inspection and electrically tested.
The final
question is where do I get my gloves, sleeves, blankets, line
hose, covers, and hot sticks tested at? IMEA/IMPA has initiated
a joint venture with Reed City Power Line Supply for a two-year
program to provide all of these testing services. The IMEA/IMPA
Joint Rubber Goods Testing Program has been set up to allow
all IMEA/IMPA utilities the opportunity to get their rubber
goods tested from one supplier. The program allows utilities
the advantage of consolidating their yearly totals to provide
quantity-pricing discounts. The program also allows each utility
the flexibility to set up pick up and delivery schedules with
Reed City Power Line Supply while still complying with the
OSHA requirements. With the program also comes fixed pricing
for replacement of failed units and their covers.
